My Birthday Outfit & Makeup.

I turned 24 years old on November 14, and no, I don’t feel ‘old’ yet.

If you’re into astrology, you’d have figured out that I’m a Scorpio. As per the zodiac sign’s traits, I am supposed to be mysterious, magnetic and intense- all of which I don’t think I remotely am.

My birthday this year was a rather quite one, since I got to celebrate it virtually with Skype calls from my family and in the real world with my husband. Mr A surprised me with chocolate chip and red velvet bundt cakes, which I cut at midnight happily. The rest of the day was mostly spent at home watching Riverdale and eating a LOT of food. My friend dropped in and gifted me a beautiful lipstick set. My husband also gave me a few gifts, one of which you will see below. In the evening, we dined at this amazing Italian restaurant called Grazie. We feasted on flavorful bruschetta, tagliatelle primavera and tortellini. That night, I discovered and fell in love with ricotta cheese, for the first time in my life.

Coming back to topic, this post is narcissistic in plain sight- here I am, parading my birthday clothes and makeup, as if it is of global importance. But I’ve been meaning to do a blog post on this very topic thinking it would be a light read, and here you are. Let’s let me indulge myself for a bit, shall we? 😉

img_0652Almost two weeks before my birthday, I had a mental image of what I wanted to wear on my birthday. According to me, my outfit had to be-

a) Practical enough to get much wear in winter.

b) A classic piece which I could repeat for years to come.

c) Neutral colors I could mix and match with just about anything.

I went on to Pinterest, as any person looking for visual inspiration would. I searched for winter outfit combinations, and pinned some which I liked. I found that I favored two separates for my birthday outfit- a sweater tunic and a high rise skinny jeans/jeggings. Both pair well together, are basics you cannot go wrong with, super comfortable and can be worn with other pieces in my wardrobe.

For example, I could pair my sweater tunic with leggings and a scarf. My high rise bottoms would pretty much look awesome with a tucked in shirt, tees and other tunics.

When it came to actually deciding which one to buy, I decided to choose from shops at the mall. I wanted to look at the merchandise in person, feel it against my skin and then buy it. I had done some prior online research, and had even decided where I wanted to buy my clothes from.

With all the pre-planning in place, I ended up with two reliable two wardrobe staples. My birthday #OOTN consisted of-

img_0651A charcoal grey cable knitted cowl neck sweater tunic with a circle hem, and tiny marled multicolored specks woven in. I got it from Express, and on a 40% discount no less! It is quite heavy, has an oversize silhouette and 3/4th batwing-like sleeves. It reached me mid-thigh, which is awesome considering how it can hide conspicuous food babies and embarrassing camel-toe episodes. The best part of this sweater was how warm it kept me, since I didn’t have to wear an extra jacket when I went out for dinner.

High-rise skinny jeggings in dark wash blue, which I got from Hollister. The fabric here is much lighter in wear than the jeans, but is equally sturdy in design. I didn’t have a pair of dark blue denims till I got these, and I am quite happy now. These jeggings have a comfortable high rise, and don’t create any weird emphasis down there *if you get my drift*. The fit around the ankles isn’t super skinny, but that doesn’t bug me a lot because of the high comfort factor.

img_0682I accessorized with the rose gold Apple watch, gifted by my husband. I am loving its sleek look and its daily dose of usefulness, as I can keep track of my fitness levels easily now. It reminds me to get my lazy bum off the couch every hour and walk around, and allows me to use so many apps like my iPhone normally would! Thank you, Mr A, for the lovely surprise gifts I was showered with (Yes, there were more). 🙂

The pictures have not done justice to the eyeshadow I wore, which was the piece de resistance of my makeup look. I wore dark blue-black glitter eyeshadow all over my lids, to complement and create harmony with the dark-hued clothes I was wearing. I kept the rest of my makeup super muted, so that my eyes would sing instead!

Here is all the makeup I used to create this look-
