Hello, ladies and gentlemen! And welcome to yet another blog post from your resident makeup and fashion “guru”. 😛
I’m going to be talking about my actual makeup and outfit that I wore on Jan 14 for Pongal. I did make a YouTube video on a makeup tutorial for this festival, in case you want to check it out. (Which you should, btw. I’ll love you all the more if you do. :D)
But for the actual festival, between cooking for hours, trying to drape a saree and eating, I was exhausted. I just wanted to look good at the end of the day, and decided to go the route I knew worked best for me.
To nail my makeup within 15 minutes, I went for a look that was neutral glam.
If I say so myself, my gold eye and nude pink lip pairing turned out quick and divine. It photographed well, and looked quite good with the saree I was wearing.
I used the following products to create this quick and easy makeup look:
- Patanjali Aloe Vera Gel – Moisturizer & Primer
- Revlon Colorstay Concealer – Conceal Dark Spots
- Tarteist Pro To Go Eyeshadow Palette –
- L’Oreal Infallible Super Slim Eyeliner – Upper Lashline
- L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes – Length & Volume In Lashes
- Wet N Wild Contouring Palette – Bronze & Highlight Under Eyes
- Sivanna Colors Shimmer Brick – Subtle Highlight For Cheekbones
- MAC Twig Lipstick – Neutral Lip To Finish The Look
- NYX Setting Spray – Eliminate Dry Patches & Set Makeup In Place
My outfit of the day was a soft silk saree in a turquoise shade, which I actually wore for my engagement in January 2016. I love the soft silky fabric that drapes beautifully and easily (not every saree fabric does that), doesn’t crease at all and feels light and comfortable to wear.
The saree has pretty woven floral motifs in hot pink and gold, and a lustrous gold zari border with similar motifs woven on them. The pallu or tail end of the saree, as seen thrown over my shoulder and down my side, has hot pink tassels and elaborate golden zari patterns.
The blouse I wore with the saree was a duochrome pink and turquoise soft silk one, with elbow-length sleeves and a plain golden border. I also had a latkan, or a small hanging decoration attached to the back of the blouse.
I accessorized with a beautiful pair of gold and fuchsia traditional earrings, and some plain golden bangles on my wrists.
- Saree – Kumaran Silks, Chennai
- Earrings – Street Shop in Chennai
- Bangles – Daiso
Here is a picture of the lunch my husband and I feasted on.
We also had a mini photo session after a late lunch, just to document how we dressed up for the day and to create one more memory to store in my head. 🙂 Here’s the both of us, in traditional attire.
I hope you liked my makeup and outfit for Pongal. If you celebrated as well, what did you do? Did you hog to the nines like my husband and I did? 😛 And what did you wear for the festival? Pray do tell in the comments section below. 🙂
With that, I’m off to bring my next YouTube video for y’all. Until next time, see you soon!
